IRISH THEATRE INSTITUTE SEEKS TO APPOINT PROJECT MANAGER FOR SPEAK UP & CALL IT OUT PHASE II

Speak Up & Call It Out Phase I 2018

Irish Theatre Institute (ITI) requires an experienced Project Manager to manage the planning and delivery of Speak Up & Call It Out Phase II, a programme of sectoral supports, training and an event. 

Context:

In 2018, Irish Theatre Institute (ITI) curated, managed and delivered Speak Up & Call It Out, an initiative to address abuse of power in the Irish theatre sector, led by ITI and supported by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht (DCH&G). Speak Up & Call It Out was designed for everyone working in Irish theatre including actors, writers, directors, designers, technicians, production and stage managers, independent producers and administrators as well as theatre collectives, major theatre organisations, venues and performing arts festivals. Irish theatre came together to discuss and identify initiatives to begin cultural change in behaviour at work. In October 2018, a Code of Behaviour for Irish Theatre was ratified by the sector at an event held in Project Arts Centre, Dublin.

In 2020, ITI will deliver Phase II through a programme of research-led monitoring and evaluation of the sectoral implementation of Code of Behaviour; sectoral training initiatives and supports; and a theatre sector Speak Up Meeting. The Project Manager will work with the Co-Directors, DCH&G, key stakeholders and the sector (both individual artists and organisations) to coordinate and deliver Phase II.

 

Contract offered:

23-week contract (10 weeks pt; 13 weeks ft) with immediate start. Remuneration will be fair and equitable and based on industry standards.

Shortlisting and interview:

All eligible applications go to the panel for shortlisting comprising ITI Senior Management and an external panellist. Interviews will be held during the week commencing 16th March 2020.

Project Manager Role:

The emphasis of the work will be on management of the Speak Up Phase II programme across 2020. The Project Manager will be required to undertake a number of specific tasks which will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

•  Manage and deliver the Speak Up Phase II programme of supports, training initiatives and a public-facing event (April – December), working closely with ITI’s Co-Directors and General Manager, within agreed timelines and set budgets;

•  Lead in administering and managing the Speak Up Phase II event (December 2020) to include scheduling, venue negotiation, budgeting, catering, equipment hire, coordination of suppliers, staff and volunteers and speakers’ travel/accommodation;

• Act as the organisation’s first point of contact with artists, presenters and facilitators and work directly with stakeholders to deliver the Speak Up Phase II programme;

•  Work with the Co-Directors and General Manager to develop and update ITI’s websites and social media to promote and disseminate Speak Up activity, in line with the communications plan;

•  Contribute efficiently to the activities of the organisation and assist with queries and information requests in relation to Speak Up Phase II;

•  Act as a representative for the organisation as required;

•  Prepare end of project reports on the Speak Up Phase II programme;

•  Ensure full compliance with and promotion of all ITI’s policies including the Code of Behaviour, Health and Safety requirements and legislation for equal opportunities and Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection.

 

Skills and Competencies Required:

•  a good knowledge and understanding of current arts policy at sectoral and national level;

•  at least five years’ experience working in the professional arts;

•  experience in producing arts events at a national and/or international level;

•  excellent project management and reporting skills;

•  experience in managing and adhering to agreed budgets;

•  excellent analytical, communications (written and verbal) and negotiating skills;

•  experience around online media (e.g. live video streaming) and the ability to deliver events utilising such methods;

•  a proven ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines;

•  excellent time management skills and a proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment;

•  personal and professional qualities of integrity, resourcefulness, discipline and confidence.

 

Desirable but not essential:

•  knowledge of employment law;

•  understanding of HR practices, in particular in an arts sector context.

 

Speak Up & Call It Out Phase II is a theatre sector initiative, led by Irish Theatre Institute, supported by Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
